Save Space With A Foldable Exercise Bike

One of the main reasons people decide not to buy an exercise bike is that they simply just take up too much room. Together with a treadmill, elliptical trainer and the exercise bike, they will just occupy too much space and are inconvenient in the house (if you don’t have a gym room) as you are advised not to store them outside.

An exercise bike is one of the smallest pieces of home gym equipment but it still takes up a fair amount of  space, if you are interested in a recumbent exercise bike, even more so. The dilemma therefore could be to have a sofa in your living room or the exercise bike. The one good thing is your guest can sit on it when you are entertaining them, but this is not really an ideal solution. So if space is at a premium, a foldable exercise bike can be the ideal solution.

What to look out for in the ideal foldable exercise bike?

The good news is that you should not need to compromise your requirements for a foldable exercise bike in comparison with fixed frame bikes. In addition, you will have a great range of models to choose from. Today, foldable exercise bikes offer computer exercise programs, user information such as heart rate and calories burn rate, just like their fixed frame brethren. The first thing to do is to work out how much space you have available for storage when the bike is not in use in order to start your research for the right model. If you are worried that a foldable exercise bike may not be as safe as a fixed frame model; relax, the chances of your foldable exercise bike storing itself, with you in it, are extremely remote if you have followed the straightforward set up instructions correctly.

You need to make your first choice on the type of bike you are interested in, this can be either an upright exercise bike or a recumbent model. Both have their various advantages and disadvantages, but you can work out the type that scores the most points for you, dependent on the exercise program you plan to follow.

Upright versus recumbent exercise bikes

The upright exercise bike most resembles the traditional bike, you should look for models with handle bar and seat settings that allow for your height and will allow you to exercise in the upright or racing hunch position comfortably. The upright exercise bike allows you to stand on the pedals when exercising which is particularly useful when working out with hill climbing program to get maximum power.  As upright exercise bikes have a smaller frame than the recumbent models, they tend to fold away into a smaller space and are more economic to manufacture than the recumbent model.

The recumbent model provides for a more relaxed seating position and provides back support which may be very important for you if you are prone to lower back pain issues. If you are not concerned that your exercise bike needs to resemble a street model then you should seriously consider this option. In both cases, you should congratulate yourself having purchased your foldable exercise bike, as you are able to continue training when you want to but need not sacrifice your home space with unsightly equipment.
